The Uttar Pradesh police have formed 10 teams to hunt down the assailants who shot dead Umesh Pal, a key witness in the 2005 BSP MLA Raju Pal murder case. Police teams are extensively checking all exit routes of Prayagraj, including borders, bus stands and the airport, as they suspect that the attackers have not yet left the city.

The Lucknow team of the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UPSTF) has also camped in the city along with the Prayagraj unit of the UPSTF headed by an officer of additional rank SP and two SPs from Lucknow. Police are also conducting night raids on suspects' hideouts.

The Prayagraj police filed an FIR against Atiq's brother, Sahista's wife Praveen and his sons Ahzaan and Abaan and arrested 14 people in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case. A total of 14 suspects, including Atiq Ahmed's sons, were detained for questioning.

Atiq Ahmed, his brother and former MLA Ashraf are the prime accused in the Raju Pal murder case. All the accused are currently in custody. After a preliminary investigation, the police concluded that two of the gunmen were from Atiq Ahmed's gang.

Police are investigating Umesh Pal's property disputes.

Meanwhile, Pal's post-mortem report revealed that he had been shot seven times - six bullets went through, while one was found lodged in his body. His body had 13 injuries, the report added.
